Most of the standards are defined for perfect gases and easy common applications. Replacing the corresponding numerical values into these equations is quite simple. In practice, most applications are more complex. Real gases, mixtures, gas/liquid mixtures (two-phase flow) and supercritical fluids can be found in many plants. All safety components have to be jointly adjuested upon each other. Responsible safety engineering stands for knowing and applying the appropriate methods and approaches. This is our understanding of sizing service – the service of CSE-Engineering.

State of technology – Standards:

In the field of Sizing Services the following standards have to be considered unless more detailed methods for specific process plants apply and therefore define the state of technology. In every single case the application limits of the standards and the assumptions behind the methods have to be examined:

  • DIN EN ISO 4126 part 1 to 10: Safety devices for protection against excessive pressure
  • EN ISO 23251: petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas industries – pressure relieving and depressuring systems
  • VDI 3783 part 1 and 2: dispersion of hazardous substances
  • AD 2000 data sheet 1 and 2: safety devices against excess pressure
