New CSE Professional Safety Engineers certified

Three years, 12 expert seminars, one goal
The path to certification as a CSE Professional Safety Engineer (“ProSE”) is a long one. Participants in the CSE Academy training program need up to three years to complete the minimum of 12 seminars. This includes not only two-day face-to-face events per seminar, but also an industry-typical exercise to be solved independently as “training on the job” (expert level).
The CSE Professional Safety Engineer training is by far the most comprehensive and application-oriented qualification program on the path to becoming an expert in process and plant safety. Participants not only learn and apply the relevant basics – regulations, methods, technical specifics. During the training, they develop the all-important safety mindset, the special safety awareness that a safety expert internalizes as a mentality.
The entire spectrum of safety technology
Every engineer develops specialist areas of focus during their training and through the challenges of their career. This makes perfect sense, but sometimes blocks the view of the entire spectrum of process and plant safety. And this is broadly diversified: Starting with the requirements for the plant safety concept and the extensive legal foundations of safety technology, it moves on to the resulting disciplines via risk analyses such as HAZOP. Hazardous substances and risk assessment, exothermic chemical reactions, dispersion calculation, explosion protection and electrostatics, sizing of safety valves and restraint systems, process control technology and functional safety through to fire protection. All of this – supplemented by some additional topics – is the subject of the CSE Professional Safety Engineer course. All Safety Premium seminars can also be attended individually.
Final exam and certificate
The oral examination at the CSE Institute marks the end of the CSE Professional Safety Engineer training. If candidates pass the exam, they are ceremoniously presented with their certificate, which also lists all the seminars they have completed as proof of their specialist knowledge.
The final exam was by no means a walk in the park for the two new ProSEs. Some of the seminars had already been held two to three years ago at the time of the exam. It can be correspondingly challenging to have the necessary answers ready. Dr. Natalie Schmidt and Dr. Davide Moncalvo have successfully met this challenge. With this certification, both are now entitled to use the title of CSE Professional Safety Engineer. The team at the CSE Center of Safety Excellence congratulates the first 2025 graduates!
