Center for Safety Integrity and Security

Overview

CeSIS is an innovation center for plant security founded in 2018 by a cooperation of the companies CSE-Engineering (safety) and 8com (IT security).

CeSIS objectives:

Protection concepts against
– Attacks by unauthorized persons (e.g. cyber attacks) and
– Third-party incidents (e.g. excavators, drills, human error etc.) in technical systems (e.g. chemistry, petrochemistry, pharmacy, power plants, critical infrastructure).

Today, safety technology is systematically applied in order to avoid the dangers to people and the environment that can arise from technical systems. Conversely, however, these systems have to be protected against attacks by unauthorized persons or third-party interventions. The CSE Center of Safety Excellence therefore defines its own additional layer of protection (LOPA) in the plant safety concept – the plant security layer.

Plant Security als neuer Independent Layer of Protection

Intelligent protection devices are innovative solutions for process and plant safety within the scope of safety 4.0. This goes hand in hand with additional process control equipment for the functional safety of plants. Intelligent protection devices are developed by the CSE institute (CSE Center of Safety Excellence gGmbH): Smart Overpressure Protection Devices (SmOP) and Smart High Integrity Protection Devices (SmartHIP) or the excavator anti-collision system (THANCS). This is the future of safety technology. But only if sufficient protection against cyber-attacks can be granted.

With the projects of CeSIS the safety of technical plants increases significantly.
